EAST KALIMANTAN DAYAK & ORCHID TOUR

DAY 01. BALIKPAPAN - LOA JANAN -
MAHAKAM (L,D)
After
arrival at Sepinggan Airport Balikpapan we drive
directly to a local restaurant to have lunch. After lunch we
drive to Loa Janan village which is located 110 km to
the North at the Mahakam River. At the pier of this village
you board a
slow boat which will serve as a "floating hotel" and
depart for the area of the Dayak people.
DAY 02. MAHAKAM - TANJUNG ISSUY (B,L,D)
After a brief stop at Ma Muntai (Muara Muntai) to
obtain our official travel permit, we continue to the
fishing villages of Jantur, Tanjung Jona and
Tanjung Hour. In the afternoon we arrive at
Tanjung Issuy, one of the main Dayak villages. Upon
arrival we will be welcomed with a traditional ceremony led
by the village chief and his people. In the evening we
attend a Dayak cultural performance in the village. We stay
overnight and have our meals in the long house of the
Dayak Benuaq.
DAY 03. TANJUNG ISSUY - MANCONG -
MAHAKAM (B,L,D)
In the morning you have an opportunity to explore the
village and to get to know the tribal way of live, their
beliefs, arts and handicrafts. We will also visit the
tribal cemetery. If the water conditions permit, we
continue to Mancong
village in the hinterland using a canoe known as "Ketinting".
After the visit we return to Lake Jempang
and board a slow boat. Overnight and meals are on board.
DAY 04. MAHAKAM - MELAK - KERSIKLUWAI
(B,L,D)
After breakfast, on board of the boat, we drive by truck or Toyota
pick-up to the Kersik Luwai National Park - a forest of
50,000 ha. with numerous varieties of orchids, including the rare
Coelogyne pandurata (Black Orchid). Next we drive to
Melak and cruise down the Mahakam River.
DAY 05. MAHAKAM - TENGGARONG - BALIKPAPAN
(B,L,D)
Today we return to Balikpapan. On the way we will stop in
Tenggarong
to visit the Sultan's collection in the museum. Late in
the afternoon we arrive in Balikpapan and check in directly in the
Hotel Benakutai for accommodation and meals.
DAY 06. BALIKPAPAN - OUT (B)
After breakfast at hotel you will be brought to the Balikpapan
airport to depart to your next destination.
