NORTH, WEST & SOUTH SUMATERA TOUR

DAY 01. ARRIVAL IN MEDAN (B,L,D)
After arrival in Medan our guide will meet you in the airport and bring
you to Hotel Deli River. The hotel is situated just outside Medan and is
surrounded by a tropical garden. Here you can just relax or make a walk in the
neighbourhood. Overnight stay in hotel Deli River.
DAY 02. MEDAN CITY TOUR (B,L,D)
In the morning we make a city tour in Medan among others passing the
remaining Dutch, English, Chinese and Malay style buildings. The afternoon you
can spend free at leisure. Overnight stay in Hotel Deli River in Medan.
DAY 03. MEDAN - BOHOROK (B,L,D)
After breakfast we drive to the orang utan rehabilitation centre in
Bohorok/Bukit Lawang in the national park Gunung Leuser. On the way
there we pass many rubber and palmoil plantations. In this impressive nature
reserve you can see orang utans in their natural environment. We stay overnight
on the banks of the beautiful
Bohorok rivier.

DAY 04. BOHOROK (B,D)
Today we visit the natural feeding grounds of the orang utan. This
involves a 45 minutes walk through the jungle to reach the feeding grounds of
the orang utan. The sportive hiker can make exciting other jungle trips here.
However walkers must be fit and have suitable shoes with good grip. We stay
overnight again in the same facilities in Bohorok..
DAY 05. BUKIT LAWANG - BRASTAGI (B,L,D)
We will make a trip along a fascinating route to the cool mountain resort of
Brastagi in the Karo Highlands. From Brastagi you have a nice view
at two active volcanoes, the Sibayak and the Sinabung. In Brastagi you can visit
the colorful fruit market and the Karo Batak traditional villages near
Peceren. We stay overnight in Brastagi.
DAY 06. BRASTAGI - SAMOSIR, LAKE TOBA (B,L,D)
We will follow a beautiful route through the Karo highlands via
pineapple, clove and ginger plantations. During the trip we will stop at the
tribal kings' house of the Simalungun Batak in Pematang Purba and
at the Sipiso Piso Falls. In the afternoon we arrive in Prapat
from where we cross Lake Toba to the island of Samosir. The car
goes with us. We will stay overnight on Samosir Island. Your hotel is situated
right at the lake side.
DAY 07. SAMOSIR - TOUR (B,L,D)
On magnificent Samosir Island we visit some typical Toba Batak
villages: Tomok with its kings' tombs, Ambarita with its megalith
execution tables and in Simanindo you can see traditional Batak dances.
We will stay overnight on Samosir Island.
DAY 08. FREE PROGRAM ON SAMOSIR ISLAND (B,D)
A day to spend free at your leisure. You can make nice walks on the island or
have a swim in the lake. We spend the night again in the same facilities.
DAY 09. SAMOSIR - PADANG SIDEMPUAN OR SIPIROK (B,L,D)
In the morning you cross the lake back to Prapat. From here we travel
along the south side of Lake Toba passing beautiful rice fields and the huge
Batak kings' graves. Next to that we pass the hot sulphur springs at
Sipoholon. Our destination and address where we stay overnight is Padang
Sidempuan or Sipirok.
DAY 10. PADANG SIDEMPUAN/SIPIROK - BUKIT TINGGI (B,L,D)
After breakfast we leave for Bukittingi in the Minangkabau highlands. We
drive again through the mountain range called Barisan Mountains.
It is an impressive tour which leads us through tropical rain forests. En route
we cross the equator in the place Bonjol. In the afternoon we arrive in
the cool and pleasant town of Bukittinggi where we will stay overnight.

DAY 11. BUKIT TINGGI CITY TOUR AND EXCURSIONS (B,L,D)
In the morning we visit the former Fort De Kock, situated on a strategic
point on a high mountain. After that will look around at the market and visit
the famous 'Karbouwengat' (Ngarai Sianok), an impressive canyon near
town. Around noon we go to the Minangkabau Palace in Pagaruyung where you
will see various aspects of the matriarchal Minangkabau society. Our next
destination is the Harau Nature Reserve, famous for its huge rock
formations and beautiful butterflies. En route we pass Batusangkar where
you will see historic rock inscriptions in Hindu-Indian Sanscrit language. In
the evening we return via Lake Singkarak to Bukittinggi. We stay
overnight in Hotel Pusako in Bukittinggi.
DAY 12. BUKIT TINGGI - MANINJAU (B,L,D)
Today we drive to Lake Maninjau via the silver town of Kota
Gadang on the other side of the Karbouwengat. For the sportive
hiker the one hour walk through the deep Karbouwengat to Kota Gadang is a must!
Our car will pick us up in Kota Gadang for the next part of today's tour
descending to the lake via the road with 44 curves. The lake is clean and
excellent for swimming. We stay overnight at Hotel Nuansa Maninjau right
at the Lake Maninjau.
DAY 13. MANINJAU - PADANG (B,L,D)
Today we drive to Padang via the beautiful Anai Valley with the
Anai Waterfall. The harbour city of Padang facing the Indian ocean is the
economic centre of West Sumatra. On arrival there is a city tour. We stay
overnight stay at Hotel Pangeran Beach in Padang.
DAY 14. PADANG - SUNGAI PENUH / KERSIK TUO (B,L,D)
Today we drive an impressive route along the west coast. We stay overnight in a
simple accommodation in Kersik Tuo in the famous Kerinci Seblat
National Park.
DAY 15. KERSIK TUO EXCURSION (B,L,D)
After breakfast we go on excursion in the Kerinci Seblat National Park.
For the seasoned hiker magnificent trips with a local guide can be arranged. Of
special interest are Lake Kerinci and the Kerinci volcano. We stay
overnight in Kersik Tuo.
DAY 16. KERSIK TUO - BENGKULU (B,L,D)
Today's tour leads us along the coastal road to Bengkulu. The town was
subject to British influence in the eighteenth century of which still remnants
can be seen. We will among others visit Fort Malioboro (Marlborough), a
former British stronghold. Overnight stay in a nice hotel with a view to the
seashore.
DAY 17. FREE PROGRAM IN BENGKULU (B,L,D)
A day to spend free at your leisure. Overnight stay in Bengkulu.
Day 18. BENGKULU - LUBUKLINGGAU (B,L,D)
Today we drive through the mountain range to Lubuklinggau, Overnight stay
in Lubuklinggau.
DAY 19. LUBUKLINGGAU - PALEMBANG (B,L,D)
From Lubuklinggau we drive east to the city of Palembang, the capital of
the province South Sumatra. The important historic harbour city of Palembang on
the banks of the Musi River is the second town of Sumatra. We stay
overnight in Palembang.

DAY 20. PALEMBANG - CITY TOUR (B,L,D)
After breakfast we make a city tour and boat excursion on the Musi River.
Eight hundred years ago Palembang was the center of the Sriwijaya empire
of which there are still remnants. In the eighteenth century the city was an
important trade center for the Dutch. We can see the old Dutch fort and
the former Governor house. A
boat trip on the wide Musi River is highly recommended. Overnight stay
in Palembang.
DAY 21. PALEMBANG - BANDAR LAMPUNG (B,L,D)
Today is a long journey through the province of South Sumatra to Bandar
Lampung. Overnight stay in a hotel with a beautiful view over the Sunda
Strait, between Java and Sumatra.
DAY 22. BANDAR LAMPUNG - WAY KAMBAS (B,L,D)
At the end of your Sumatra tour you go to one of the wildlife highlights of
Sumatra, the Way Kambas Nature Reserve. Here you can see the elephant
training center. In the afternoon we drive back to Bandar Lampung for
overnight stay.
DAY 23. FREE PROGRAM IN BANDAR LAMPUNG (B,D)
A day to spend free at your leisure. Overnight stay in Bandar Lampung.
DAY 24. BANDAR LAMPUNG / TRANSFER OUT (B)
Transfer to the airport of Bandar Lampung for catching your flight to your next
destination. End of a special Sumatra tour.
